Mx-5 design and your preference
« เมื่อ: ตุลาคม 26, 2014, 09:04:24 »
NA = Late 1980's interpretation of the original 1960's Lotus Elan

NB = Mini Jag XK + Dodge Viper + some style cues from RX-7 FD3S... Still pretty much mid-century modern/1960s looking but more expression of coke bottle body

NC = BAD interpretation of NA.... Ugly fenders...Tombstone center console..... cartoonish front end

ND = DAT Catfish face seriously!? and busy interiors

I like mid-century/1960s design so both NA and NB look great and retro.

But at the end of the day, NB (MK2.5) > NB (Mk2) > NA > ND > NC

I reckon it depends on how peps taste. By the way in my sight NC is the combination among retro thing and
a little bit more contemporary. So just to say I like it.

Was this a question or you just wanted to share your thoughts krub?

Design is almost always subjective but amongst the four, NB would come last anytime I rank them  ;D

Feel free to share opinions krub

On NB (particularly Mk 2.5), the overall look seems to be wide and low. It has very subtle curves. The lines of the NB are reminiscent of some beautiful cars of the past ... the XKE and early vettes. The flat rounded rear quarter sections that remind me of the XK-E. It looks light, agile and quick. The biggest selling part is its coke bottle styling which was relatively prevalent during MADMEN/mid-century era. The dashboard console reminds me a bit of those found in Mercedes R107 Panzerwagen (1971-1989). Its 1960s-70s retro design elements really caught my attention when it was debuted in Thailand back in '01.

As for NC, the coke-bottle styling is gone. The NC looks too short & boxy, the body lines just don't blend as those of the NB. I just can't warm up to those cumbersome fenders. The NC over-styled dash just doesn't have the simple elegance and retro-look of the NB.

No offense to NC owners though
