There are a couple possible explanations why the older, less aerodynamic Model 3 outperformed its replacement. The 2022 car we tested was equipped with the standard 18-inch wheels while the facelifted Dual-Motor car wore the optional 19-inch wheels, which are almost certainly heavier and less aerodynamic. Additionally, both European-spec Highland cars we tested wore the summer tires that come standard on the other side of the Atlantic. In the U.S., the Model 3 Standard Range and Dual-Motor come with all-season tires, which may have lower rolling resistance.
